Former Alabama defensive lineman James Smith and ex-Bama edge rusher Qua Russaw are reportedly planning a joint visit to Ohio State, along with several other top-tier schools. According to 247Sports' Matt Zenitz, Smith and Russaw are among the most highly-rated defensive players entering the transfer portal for 2026. Smith, a five-star prospect, had an impressive junior season, making 28 tackles, 6.5 tackles for loss, 2.5 sacks, and a pass breakup. Russaw, who started as an outside linebacker for Alabama in 2025, recorded 14 tackles with one sack in nine games after a strong 2024 season, where he made 30 tackles, two interceptions, 2.5 tackles for loss, one sack, and one forced fumble.
The brothers' potential reunion at Ohio State is particularly intriguing. Smith and Russaw, who attended Carver High School together, signed with Alabama as a package deal in the 2023 recruiting class. They have been inseparable on and off the field, often describing each other as 'brothers' in interviews. This close relationship could be a significant factor in their decision to transfer together.
