Music lovers, rejoice! Spotify just made a game-changer for understanding your favorite tunes. This week, the streaming giant unveiled three exciting updates to its lyrics feature, and they’re bound to enhance your listening experience. But here's where it gets even better: Spotify is finally breaking down language barriers for music fans worldwide.
First up, offline lyrics support. Premium users can now download lyrics alongside their favorite tracks for offline listening. No more guessing those catchy lines when you’re on a plane or in a remote area—your lyrics will be right there, ready to sing along to.
And this is the part most people miss: Spotify is expanding lyric translations globally. Since 2022, the platform has offered translations, but only in select markets. Now, both Free and Premium users worldwide can unlock the meaning behind songs in different languages. To access this feature, simply swipe up on the Now Playing tab and tap the translate icon (it looks similar to Apple Translate’s icon). The translation will appear based on your device’s language, and you can switch back to the original lyrics with a single tap.
But here’s where it gets controversial: Is Spotify’s translation feature accurate enough? While it’s a fantastic tool for understanding songs in other languages, some users might argue that machine translations can’t capture the nuances of lyrics. What do you think? Let us know in the comments!
Spotify also introduced lyric previews in the Now Playing tab. Instead of swiping up, you can now follow along with the lyrics in a compact space below the album art. This feature is rolling out to both Free and Premium users worldwide, but it’s currently limited to mobile and tablet devices. If it’s not your cup of tea, you can easily turn it off by tapping the three-dot menu in the top-right corner of the Now Playing screen and selecting Lyrics Off.
These updates come hot on the heels of Spotify’s recent price hike for Premium subscriptions in the US. Starting this month, the individual plan jumps to $12.99 per month, a $1 increase. The Duo and Family plans are also getting pricier, with an additional $2 per month, now costing $18.99 and $21.99, respectively. While these changes might sting a bit, the new lyrics features could make the extra cost feel more justified for some users.
