NRLW Star Accused of Stalking and Abusive Behavior
Maddie Studdon, a former captain of the NSW Sky Blues and current NRLW playmaker, has been charged with domestic-violence-related stalking. The incident occurred after a 'breakdown in her relationship' with her former partner, leading to a series of 'abusive messages' sent from January 11.
News.com.au broke the story, detailing how police allege that after being blocked by her ex, Studdon resorted to using bank transfer descriptions to communicate with her former partner. The situation escalated when she allegedly turned up at her ex's home overnight to 'confront' her, leading to her arrest on Tuesday.
NSW Police confirmed the charges in a statement to foxsports.com.au, stating that 'a woman was arrested and taken to Mascot Police Station where she was charged with talk/intimidate intending fear physical etc harm (domestic) and use carriage service to menace/harass/offend'.
Studdon appeared in court via audio-visual link from Surry Hills Police Station on Wednesday morning, where she entered pleas of not guilty to the charges. The court learned that Studdon had a previous domestic violence charge from 2015.
Despite not being currently contracted to an NRLW club, Studdon's lawyer informed the court that she had a contract opportunity with the Cowboys for the upcoming season. Her last NRLW appearance was in Round 6 last year for the Dragons as a replacement injury player. The Warriors had also attempted to sign her as an injury replacement in August, but their request was denied by the NRL due to the nature of the signing.
The case highlights the complexities of domestic violence and the legal consequences that can arise from such incidents. It also underscores the importance of addressing and preventing such behaviors in the sports industry and beyond.
