Adam Elliott's NRL Journey Continues: Rabbitohs Offer a Lifeline!
It appears the race to secure Adam Elliott's signature is over, with the former Newcastle Knights forward set to continue his NRL career with the South Sydney Rabbitohs. This move comes after Elliott wasn't offered a new deal by the Knights at the end of 2025.
Elliott, known as one of the NRL's most consistent and underrated players, can play both lock and hooker positions. The Knights are currently restructuring their playing roster and managing their salary cap, aiming to improve their standing under coach Justin Holbrook heading into 2026.
But here's where it gets controversial...
Throughout the new year, Elliott was also pursued by the Wests Tigers and St George Illawarra Dragons. However, the South Sydney Rabbitohs also showed interest. News Corp reports that the Rabbitohs have offered him a deal, and he could sign with the club soon.
It's understood the deal is a one-year, cut-price contract, as South Sydney's salary cap is stretched due to the recent signing of David Fifita. Elliott still needs to pass a medical at the Rabbitohs, but he has already toured the club's facilities.
And this is the part most people miss...
In 2025, the 31-year-old played only seven games due to an arm injury sustained in Round 12, which ended his season prematurely.
Given South Sydney's recent departures, including Davvy Moale, Jacob Host, Siliva Havili, and Shaquai Mitchell, Elliott's acquisition is crucial. However, he isn't guaranteed a starting position. Cameron Murray is expected to take the lock forward role after missing the 2025 season due to injury, with Lachlan Hubner and Tallis Duncan also in contention. Duncan is likely to start in the second-row, while Keaon Koloamatangi and Jai Arrow are expected to play at prop.
The possibility of a six-man bench could provide Elliott with a faster route to consistent NRL appearances. Elliott has played a total of 173 NRL games since his debut, representing the Bulldogs, Raiders, and Knights.
